Sumosan Doha launches Mid November 2021

Internationally acclaimed, multi-award-winning, contemporary Japanese restaurant Sumosan will open its doors in Doha this November.

Sumosan restaurant has achieved its stellar reputation in the hospitality industry worldwide through consistency and by exceeding culinary expectations, setting the standard in innovative Japanese cuisine.

Leading the kitchen is executive chef Bubker Belkhit, affectionately known as Buba.

He has worked with the Sumosan group for over two decades, always evolving to enhance and perfect his talent and the guest experience, never ceasing to surprise.

The Sumosan Doha menu will include beloved classics such as lobster salad, creamy spicy king crab, and salmon rice pizza to name a few, as well as many new creations adapted for local tastes without wavering from the Sumosan ethos.

Sumosan Doha is located in Msheireb Downtown Doha, the new lifestyle and cultural centre of the city. This is the world’s first sustainable regeneration project, reviving Doha’s old commercial district with a new architectural design and turning it into the most desired hub of the city.

The restaurant is situated in the Al Baraha district of Msheireb, the largest open-air covered square in the Middle East and next to the new Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

The contemporary flair and sophistication of the menu is matched by the sleek, modern design of the interior.

London-based design company Design LSM has been entrusted to create the first stand-alone flagship Sumosan in the Middle East. Tom from LSM design says “We have taken this well-established brand and elevated its identity to a completely new level, ensuring its recognisability does not come from the food and service alone, but is felt the minute that guests walk through the doors.”

Founder Janina Wolkow comments “To witness Sumosan evolve in this dynamic region is incredibly rewarding, we look forward to welcoming everyone.”

Intrigue and anticipation have been created with warm and earthy accents of bronze, brushed brass and smoked glass mirroring, complemented by high ceilings and a mixture of statement chandeliers and low architectural lighting to create a glamorous Asian ambience.

The dining room features a vast theatre kitchen showcasing culinary art, and guests can experience the artistry of the food in comfortable green velvet booths and lush leather armchairs. The impressive interior space houses 110 guests. The air-conditioned external terrace can accommodate 90 guests and is an elegant extension of the restaurant featuring equally rich finishes.
