DSQUARED2 SPRING SUMMER 2022MEN AND WOMEN COLLECTION

FAIRYTALE GRUNGE

A dreamy spirit gives the deconstructed and worn-in a glamorous edge for Dsquared2’s Spring Summer 2022 collection. These clothes are designed with soul—with a past, future, and a presence—floral prints on gauzy fabrics, destroyed knits, patchwork upcycled denims and glittery tattered strands. Dsquared2’s design language of combining dichotomy is at play; delicate is meshed with the tough in textured layers and glimmering detail.

Military styling takes on a romantic attitude in micro floral print on mousseline crepe cut in a men’s shirt with patch pockets and paired with vinyl pants, the same material in women’s blouses and dresses. Paperweight cotton satin trousers and shorts for men and women are contemporary combat pants with zippers, outside pockets, and snaps. The pattern of tonal camouflage is laser cut-out on tailored jackets. These are styled with open weave knits and T-shirts—with a distinct washed, torn, and overworn appearance.

Draped layering is found in the women’s looks: diaphanous shirts, a swathe of tulle and a vinyl bandeau top paired with tailored pants; sheer dresses are worn together with ripped T-shirts. Fabrics infused with a vintage appearance, tapestry florals in jackets and devoré in transparent dresses convey the ethereal, lived-in style of the collection.

Sequinned filaments cascade down the frayed threads of pants, dresses, and ripped denim. Lace is laminated in dresses and tops, and bubble wrap is transformed into outerwear. Denim is constructed by upcycling vintage Dsquared2 denim pieces, cutting them up and putting them together patchwork style in jeans and skirts.

Fantasy also shapes the accessories. Sparkling fruit pendants, hearts and butterflies are crafted into jewellery, with handmade crowns. Whimsical leopard print heart bags are joined with lunch pail and cord styles, and mini hand-held bags that reveal another bag snap-fastened on top. Chunky boots and sandal platforms offset the collection’s softness.
