CURLSHOP - 6 TIPS FOR THE BEST SPRING CURLS

Rym Yessad, Founder of Curlshops.com shares top tips for switching up your hair regimen this season

Spring is in the air. It’s the season of new beginnings. It’s the season of flowers, and the earth seems to come alive again. It’s also the time that temperatures begin to rise. For people with springy tresses, this might be the perfect time to evaluate and prepare their hair for the changes spring brings with it.

Two elements that significantly affects the way your hair behaves are temperature and humidity. Usually, they bring about ‘frizz.’ Frizzy hair is very noticeable straw-like, rough hair. They alter hair dynamics. So, for people with springy hair in particular, spring calls for a regimen change.

People with curly hair know all too well about the issue, and so does Rym Yessad, founder of homegrown e-shop Curlshops.com. She struggled with her curls for years before discovering solutions for all her hair issues. A budding female entrepreneur, Rym shares her top six tips for beating the heat and maintaining well-nourished, well-defined curls this spring:

1. Trim those edges

Curls should be trimmed every six to eight weeks. They are much easier to style and detangle when they are regularly trimmed. It also helps with reducing shedding and breakage. Trimmed curls look thicker, fuller and healthier.

2. Switch out your products

Heavy oils and butters (such as castor oil and shea butter) are great for sealing in moisture during the cooler winter months, however, with spring bringing in a lot of moisture, it is better to use lightweight such as avocado oil and jojoba oil.

3. Sun protection

Your hair needs protection from UVA and UVB rays just like your skin does. Prolonged exposure to the sun can damage hair strands resulting in discolored, dry and brittle strands. Hair ends up broken, thin, and frizzy. Use a hat or a silk scarf when you are out and about. It would also be wise to use natural haircare products that offer leave-in sun protection.

4. Use a clarifying shampoo after outdoor activities

For those who spend spring weekends in the pool, consider adding a clarifying shampoo to your haircare regimen once a month to rinse off the chlorine and any other harmful chemicals that might have latched on to your hair.

5. Start co-washing

Co-washing involves using a conditioning cleanser to remove dirt, oil, and buildup from the hair. Co-washing cleansers contain more conditioning properties and lower levels of harsh detergents and surfactants that can strip your hair of essential moisture. It provides gentle cleansing for your hair and scalp without drying it out.

6. Accessorize

Curls are natural, beautiful, and enjoyable. Accessorize them. Bring out those hair wraps, headbands, flowers and try out new looks. There’s no better time to rock hair accessories than when spring is in full swing.
